Cisco plan for better management of connected devices
Cisco has now come up with a solution for the IT energy consumption issues. They suggest central monitoring and regulation of the IP devices that are connected through the networks. For this they have come up with a flexible and user friendly system upgrading and replacing some of the used Cisco products.
The company unveiled its new product the Cisco EnergyWise during the 2009 Cisco Net workers conference at Barcelona. You can install the device on any of the catalyst switches provided by Cisco. With the device in place you will be able to measure the exact energy consumption you are making with other equipments like the IP phones, access points, and above all, the lap tops.
Cisco further aims at designing the device and expanding it into one that would ensure automation and management conveniently. With this aim they are trying to enhance the flexibility of the platform as much as possible. The system can control the entire technical equipments installed in a building. This includes everything from light, air conditioner to lift and central heating devices.
While IT itself consumes accounts for about two percent of the entire energy consumption of the world. However, it has great potential for having an impact on the balance 98% energy consumption on the planet earth, according to Chris Dedicoat, President of European Markets at Cisco. A centrally managed network is the answer to most of the spills and leakages you suffer. It prevents wastage while promoting productivity.
