Love To Learn About Organic SEO

I have been reading lots of articles about what organic SEO is and would love to have a SEO consultant explain it to me like I was five years old. Instead, I think that I might just go ahead and hire someone to come up with a good campaign of any type of organic SEO that they think might actually work for me and my site.
I guess that if you do not know enough about something then the best thing to do would be to hire your own SEO consultant that does and turn them loose. They certainly cannot hurt my site, since it does not rank very well currently and my sales are next to nonexistent. If the site could just pay for itself and maybe for half of the marketing, then it would be worth it.
