Deck Construction! The Guidelines!

Home & Garden February 26th, 2008

The wood in the deck should be properly dried either naturally or kiln dried to enable excellent penetration of the deck cleaners which will open up spores to the needed quality of the stains and sealers penetration. They should be cleanable without leaving residue which would affect other applications. The decks should meet other laid down building regulations favorable to a particular area.

The choice of the deck stains must involve the analysis of the price, expected time of protection, the color desired and the desired overall result of the deck. They should have the shortest drying time. Whether dry or wet their inflammability degree should be minimal to prevent being ignited by things as sparks and lighters, cigarettes butts and candles.

Safety in decks is paramount thus all safety precautions must be put in place. During construction the machines and equipment can cause accident due to poor use or being faulty. Always have the first aid with you and a stand by medical personnel you can call in case of mishaps. Make sure that all power cables are well sealed and do not pass through moist places causing leakages.

The pavers should be non slip and safe to deal with as in weight and design. Shape cornered pavers should be avoided. Also the machine or equipment used should be safe for the user and any other person who might come near it.
